44 Missouri - MIAA athletes qualify for 2012 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Nationals

Missouri/MIAA qualifiers for 2012 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field National Championships
Friday and Saturday March 9-10, 2012
Minnesota State-Mankato,
Mankato, Minnesota

Fourty-Four men and women from Missouri or competing at Missouri or MIAA schools have qualified for the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships at Minnesota State Mankato Friday and Saturday, March 9-10.

The Central Missouri Mules will need great performances to keep their indoor trophy streak alive. After posting what still stands as the top DII heptathlon score of the season, Brent Vogel's season ended prematurely. The 2011 DII decathlon champion will be in the stands cheering his teammates on, hoping for another top-4 team trophy. The Mules fell from 7th to 10th in the latest USTFCCCA rankings. But with top seeds Laban Sialo in the 5,000 and Darius Walker in the pentathlon, and six athletes, they can't be counted out. Dalton Moberly joins Sialo in the 5k and Shawn Boss joins Walker in the heptathlon. Sialo is also scheduled to run in the mile. The Lincoln University men also have long odds to add another trophy to their stuff trophy case. The Blue Tigers are ranked 12th and have six entries with five qualifiers in the sprints and hurdles. Missouri Southern is ranked 24th and have four entries with three men. Southern freshman Jeff Fraley will look to make some noise in both the 60 and 200 meters. Pittsburg State is ranked 25th and has two qualifiers, including Joplin native Colbie Snyder. Snyder's 16-10 mark in the pole vault makes him the #3 seed.
Emporia State was 22nd in the rankings before dropping out in the latest release. Emporia State has three qualifiers.

On the women's side, Lincoln is ranked 4th. The Blue Tigers have 13 entries with 10 women. They're entered in the 60, 60 hurdles, 200, 400, 4x400, mile, high jump, and long jump. The Lincoln women are the #1 seed in the 4x400. With a very tight schedule Emporia State's Katie Mona decided to run just the 800 and not the mile. Mona is the #2 seed in the 800 and placed 5th last year. Her withdrawal from the mile gave Lincoln's Twishana Williams the chance to make the trip to nationals with her 4:56 time in the mile. Emporia State is ranked #25.

The Central Missouri women were oh-so-close to a team trophy last year. The Jennies are ranked 6th and have five women qualified and 12 entries. It will be a busy weekend for the Jennies especially Lindsay Lettow and Erin Alewine. Four of the women have qualified in multiple events, and three of those are entered in the pentathlon. Lettow and Alewine, who combined to score 81 points at the conference meet will compete in seven events. Lettow is the top seed in the pentathlon, and also entered in the 60 hurdles, long jump, and high jump. Alewine is the #4 seed in the pentathlon and also entered in the long jump and high jump. Zoe Sharplin is seeded 9th in the pentathlon and 15th in the 60 hurdles. Former national high jump champion Jenna Schmidt is entered in the high jump and triple jump. Kayla Muyskens is seeded #4 in the shot put.

Truman State's All-American Jennifer Zweifel will shoot for a national title in the triple jump as the #2 seed. Zweifel is one of five MIAAers entered in the long jump. Zweifel and the Bulldogs are ranked #20. Missouri Southern is sending three athletes in the field events and are ranked #24. Nicole Green is the #6 seed in the shot put. Just like on the men's side, Pittsburg State is sending three women.

Harlan won this event in the early days of his professional career with wins in 2005 and 2006. In his first year as a post-collegiate, Adcock won the 2011 edition of this event with 5,711 points.”

Equipment and Patience

If the last year wasn’t proof enough, then the last five months has been. It’s time to upgrade the computer. My productivity and reliability need some improvement to begin with, but with a computer that can’t handle the workload, I qucikly fall behind. Right now I’m extremely far behind. I love Adobe Photoshops’ Lightroom software that does a phenomenal  job of managing an enormous photo and video collection but my hardware can’t keeep up.

So I ask for your patience and ask you to please keep coming back.

Still to come:
