2011 Chicago Marathon: McDowell gets Trials Qualifier

Congrats to Parkway South XC/Distance Coach Adam McDowell! McDowell, the former Missouri Class 4 XC State Champion for Parkway South High School before a standout career at Mizzou, earned a ticket to the 2012 USA Olympic Marathon Team Trials Sunday at the Chicago Marathon. The 32 year old became the latest of the group of Missourians to qualify for the Marathon Trials that take place in Houston January 14.

McDowell finished 16th overall and was the 15th male to cross the tape. He did so in 2:18:47, just 13 seconds ahead of the 2:19 qualifying standard.

Former Francis Howell North, Mizzou, and Lindenwood standout Jackie Pirtle-Hall just missed the Olympic Trials Women’s B Standard of 2:46.00. Pirtle-Hall, 29, was the 25th woman finisher clocking in at 2:47.10.

Iowa native, Des Moines resident, and former SMS/Missouri State University All-American Casey Owens finished 41st on the womens side. If I remember correctly said she in June she had only recently been back to training after a break. Owen’s finished in 2:51.46, placing 41st amoung women.

Former SEMO runner Brian Whitehead turned in a 73rd place finish on the Men’s side in 2:31.08. Whitehead, I believe is a high school coach in his native state of Kentucky.

Turning in another top 100 finish was Michael Pierce. Pierce, a former All-Stater for Oak Park High School in North Kansas City and former All-American on the track for SBU, was 88th on the men’s list at 2:32:48.  Last I heard he was training with a group in New York State, but his residence on the marathon website lists Blue Springs.

McDowell joins atleast five other Missourians who have qualified by either reaching the 10k, half-marathon, or marathon qualifying standard. A list below shows the current qualifiers with their high school, hometown, and college(s). Also copy and pasted are their qualifying marks and the races they were achieved at. Tommy Neal, just barely squeeked in with his 1:05:00 half marathon time in June.
