3 Chantae McMillan 6003pts Nebraska, Rolla HS, Rolla, MO
9 Lindsay Lettow 5547pts Central Missouri, Des Moines Christian HS, Urbandale Iowa
11 Elizabeth Roehrig 5497pts unattached, Mizzou volunteer Asst, Minnesota, Chilton Wisconsin
Chantae takes third earning her first USATF medal. She beat hr PR of 5951pts set in winning the Big 12 Meet in May. She has the World Championships B Standard of 5950 but needs to score 6150 points to earn the A Standard in the next six weeks to make it to the meet. If she would have won the heptathlon but not earn the A Standard she only would have gone to the World Championships if no other American earned this A standard this year and Hyleas Fountain, who earned the standard last year was too injured to compete at Worlds.
The stomach flu reportedly slowed down Fountain who was an Olympic medalist in 2008. Fountain dropped from 3rd to 6th after the 800. Looking ahead to the 2012 Trials, it should be a battle. With this year’s field, the Pixler twins, Mizzou grad Fiona Asigbee, and a stomach flu free Fountain it will be a deep field.
Senior Women’s Pole Vault
t9 Vera Neuenswander 4.20m/13-9.25
Vera cleared the opening height of 13-9.25 on her second attempt then missed all three attempts at 14-1.25
3rd Collegian, 18 competitors, 6 no heights,
Senior Men’s Shot Put
2 Christian Cantwell 21.87m/71-9
Cantwell took the lead on his first throw which was his best. Adam Nelson took the lead and win on his second toss at 72-5.75. Cantwell’s mark tied Reese Hoffa’s for the world’s best before Nelson’s winning throw. Reese Hoffa was third just behind Cantwell at 71-8.75. Ryan Whiting was the fourth and also went over the 70’ mark. All four will go to Daegu for World as Cantwell earned a automatic berth for being the reigning World Champ.
Cantwell had three fouls and his other two marks were 71-3.25 and 71-2.
Senior Men’s 200 Semis
6 Maurice Mitchell 20.47q +0.9w Heat 1 3rd
Maurice makes his first USA Final
Senior Women’s 100 Hurdles Semis
14 Tiffani McReynolds 12.97 +2.5w Heat 2 5th
5th Collegian
Tiffani finishes a fantastic freshman season that included a Big 12 title and NCAA runner-up finish in the Indoor 60 hurdles. Outdoors she was an NCAA Nationals qualifier in the 100 hurdles and 4x100. Not to mention the 14th place finish at USA’s as a freshman. We’ll see if she adds the 400 hurdles to her repertoire next year.
Senior Men’s 200 Final
4 Maurice Mitchell 20.31 +2.4
Maurice misses World Team by .25 seconds, Top Collegian by 1/1000 of a second.

Three more Missourians earned medals (top 3) Sunday, the final day of the 2011 USATF Outdoor Nationals in Eugene Oregon at Hayward Field. Patrick Stroupe, unattached/Central Methodist U/Fayette HS/Armstrong MO, took third Sunday morning in the 20k racewalk. Stroupe’s bronze medal adds to his handful of previous USATF medals. His time was just under four minutes slower than the World Championships A standard.
Chantae McMillan leapt and threw her way to the lead of the Heptathlon Sunday before finishing third overall and earning her first US medal. She’ll need to pr again by almost 150 points to earn the World Championships A standard and make team USA. It was a great return to form for McMillan after not finishing the DI Championship heptathlon two weeks ago after not clearing a height in the high jump. University of Central Missouri junior Lindsay Lettow didn’t match her pr in the heptathlon but a ninth place finish and being the third collegian is pretty solid. We’ll see if her future holds a spot on a US Team to join her coach Kip Janvrin who represented the red, white, and blue many times.
Despite already having an automatic berth into the World Championships because of his 2009 World Title Christian Cantwell earned a silver medal in the Shot Put Sunday. Cantwell seems to be fully recovered from February shoulder surgery.
Maurice Mitchell secured his first USATF final with his finish in the 200 semifinals. Two and a half hours later Mitchell was looking to secure his second spot on Team USA and his first World Championships. Last year he earned two medals as part of Team USA’s under 23 squad that competed in the NACAC Championships. Running from lane one he appeared to have a good start but in his fifth race in three days didn’t seem to reach that highest gear that saw him win an NCAA title two weeks ago and break the 20 second barrier. He finished fourth Sunday and missed a medal and spot on the World Team by .25 seconds. It will be interesting to see what happens next for Maurice. Will he extend his season and seek that sub 10 second 100, more sub 20 200’s and a professional contract or shut it down and return to Florida State for his senior year? Either way he’s got a bright future and hopefully next year in Eugene he’ll earn that medal and Team USA spot.
Congrats to all participants and medalists! Good luck and God bless the rest of the season and down the road! Hopefully we’ll see many of you in Eugene next summer for the Olympic Trials!
